TOO cute!

This month I knew right away what images I wanted to use with this paper. Recently my sister had asked me to babysit my niece gaby while she ran a few errands. Once my sister left Gaby was whiney and clearly unhappy. But Russel took her in his arms and made everything better they cuddled on the couch and I had to get some photos. The light was pouring through the window and it gave me some wonderful results.

I have made a point to use the things I have so that I can better justify spending money at Auntie Em's on new scrapbooking goodness. So on this layout I decided I should make a small dent in my ribbon collection and it turns out it was just a very small dent as I am the ribbon queen. I should actually work on better organizing my ribbon too it would be more readily available and maybe just maybe the stash would go down.

I also used a bunch of flowers and some beautiful lace like stickers that I had had for a while.

For the flag I used a pin that Emma' had given us for one of the last challenges cause it had the cutest flower on the top that matched I used a bit of left over card stock from my scraps and just wrote TOO and drew some stitching around the flag it was
that simple and it turned out so cute  :)

Other then that my layout is fairly simple I edited my photos in photoshop as per usual. I made them half sepia which added a bit of softness. Cropped 3 of them to 3x3 and printed my favorite on a 4x6. Added some flowers and a bunch of ribbon and voila a super soft and cute page. I'm so happy with it.

The journaling block reads:
Maman t'a laissé avec nous pour aller faire des commissions tu étais fatiguée et rien ne pouvait te consoler sauf les caresses d'oncle Russel.

Hope you are all getting your challenges done. I just took the time to look back on what I created only for the challenges and it's great to see how much it pushes me to get stuff done.

Lorena's take on August's PageMap Challenge

We got to play with the Prima Songbird collection. I instantly had in mind some photos of a beautiful sunset in the backdrop of my daughter eating S'mores at a lakeside home.  The sketch I was working from has three photos, and you know me and my difficulty with multiple photos! Well I took the opportunity to use different photos to create an extended look of the marshmallow on the stick and printed them in sepia while I kept the peaches and blues in the colour photo of my daughter eating her smores, perfect coupling for the colours in the paper line. I turned the sketch on it's side as I liked the vertical lines in this paper rather than horizontal, I loved the birdy totem pole!

You too can play along in this adventure - all you have to do is create a layout based on the August sketch ensuring you use either banners, flags or pendants. I used mine in the title. Your materials for the layout must have been purchased from Auntie Em's and you must bring your layout to Auntie Em's Scrapbooking before the end of the month.

Pretty Girl

For this months design team layout, I once again used pictures of my niece.  She is usually my subject of choice when I have girly paper, or embellishments to use.  It also helps that she enjoys getting her picture taken, unlike my son who either makes a silly face or places his hands in front of it.

This month the PageMaps challenge is to create a Flag or Pendant on your layout based on the August PageMaps sketch from the Scrapbook & Cards Today calendar.  I couldn't figure out where to put the chipboard bird, so I decided to use it to create my flag.  I wanted it to look like he was holding one end of the tread and wrapped the other end around the wooden buttons.  I guess it's not really a flag in the traditional sense, but hey... scrapbooking isn't about being traditional and always following the rules.

A little iridescent embossing on the chipboard letters and of course some stickles on the pink flowers of the pattern paper, and voila... Done!

Mother's Day

On Mother's Day 2012, I asked my husband Matt to take pictures of my son Sam, my mom and I together. Like most men, Matt doesn't think of these things on his own. I have to ask. Regardless, he managed to get a few decent pictures to remember the day.

This month, the design team used the Songbird collection from Prima. Let's face it, Prima products are BEAUTIFUL! I thought this soft and pretty paper was perfect for my pictures.

Our challenge this month was to create flags or pennants. Flags and pennants are very popular these days and are easy to make. For my layout, I made flags using scrap pieces of paper, a square punch and toothpicks.

I used a journalling box that came with the collection and added embellishments: Prima wood buttons, chipboard sticker and butterfly. The butterfly came in a stark white, which really didn't go with my layout. I used Glimmer Mist to change the colour.

Check out the Songbird collection at Auntie Em's and don't forget to submit your layout for this month's challenge.

Happy scrappin'!

August PageMaps Challenge - Songbird style

Have you noticed how flags and pendants are popping up everywhere in scrapbooking?  This month the PageMaps challenge is to create a Flag or Pendant on your layout based on the August PageMaps sketch from the Scrapbook & Cards Today calendar.
Check out what your Auntie Em's Design Team did using the Songbird collection from Prima Marketing.

If you want to play along for an amazing Auntie Em's prize - simply bring your layout to Auntie Em's before the end of August.

Stephanie's Take: Pretty Girl

I kept it pretty simple this month, letting the photos of my niece be the main focus of this page.  I didn't want embellishments to take over, a simple title, wooden buttons, and my version of a flag was just enough.

Sarah's Take: Mother's Day

Flags are easy and fun to make. I cut a few strips of paper and used a square punch on the end. Then, using liquid glue, I wrapped the other end around a toothpick. I love that an embellishment that took 5 minutes to make can add so much to a layout.

Nancy's Take: Too Cute

When I saw the paper I knew right away what photos I wanted to use. I love it when it's obvious what the page will become. I used the flag in the title and I had a leftover pin from one of the last challenges that went just perfectly on the layout. I simply wrote TOO in brown pen and drew some stitching around it wrapped it around the pin and voila "too cute"

Lorena's Take: "SMORE'S"

I turned the sketch on it's side and created a unique title with the ticket shaped alphabets with this collection.  I used both colour and sepia photos together on this layout to capture the moment of my daughter's Smore's experience - pure love!

Watch this blog every week for more close up's and details about each layout.  You can see each of these layouts displayed at Auntie Em's for the entire month of August.
