October has been the craziest month!!!  I haven't even unpacked from September's Crop and Create at NavCanada....that's just insane!  I haven't touched a piece of pattern paper, a photograph, washi tape, or even my precious circle maker. I never thought having my three kids in school would mean I would have zero time to scrapbook.  I wouldn't change any of it though.

So going back to Crop and Create. How fun was that? I loooved scrapping with my peeps, meeting scrapbooking divas, and seeing all of the different talent. And the goodie bag was pretty awesome.  It is definitely an event I will attend every year.

So here are a few layouts I created during my three days of play:

1.  I asked Emma to get this Dapper Dan paper for me. I love the browns and greens. Such a wonderful collection for boys. And of course I incorporated my beloved arrows...ha.

2.  Most everything I used on this page was from the goodie bag received from Crop&Create. I wanted my page to be soft since the picture (one of my favourites ever!) is so soft and dreamy.

3. Trying to keep with my resolution to scrapbook a page of me once a month, I created a page detailing the place I am at in my life today that I never thought in a million years I would be.  I cut strips of paper (don't ask me what line it is, I'm horrible at remembering), placed embellies that I got from Emma that weekend, and my beautiful letters that I again can't remember what they are but know that I got them at Emma's store...;0)  Oh, and I wrote my journalling on chalkboard washi tape, brilliant invention.

4.  My Joe Joe always provides me with tons of inspiration for page ideas. He's my last baby so every "baby thing" he does is the last time I will experience it. Like when we put away the highchair forever, when I had to get rid of the bouncy chair, when the rocking at night stopped, when I lost it when Shawn disassembled the crib and I was never going to have a nursery again...sniff sniff.  Ok, I'll stop before I go into a depression.  This page was done with a bunch of pieces of paper that I pinched at the corners. I threw in some Luxe line embellishments and some Thickers sparkly letters.

5.  Last is my Joe Joe's first day of school.  This page was kept simple by cutting strips of paper at different sizes but all the same length. I curled the bottom of the pieces of paper to give it some dimension. That apple is cut out from a paper that had a bunch on it and I popped it up with some pop up dots.  Different washi tape and cool letters finish the page.

Looking forward to Emma's all day crop on November 19th. Although there's a bunch of fun ladies going so I may not get as much done as I want...lol

See you all soon!!

Happy September!!!  Back to school, cooler nights, closing of pools, Crop&Create, and did I mention back to school!?!  Yes, that means more time to scrapbook....yayyyy, for me!  I'm so excited. My youngest started school this year so that means all three are in school and I get the house to myself for 6hrs & 45mns per day, 5 days a week. I do realize that I am blessed to be able to have so much time to myself to do the things I enjoy.

So I haven't done any scrapbooking this month yet but I plan to very soon. Today I am posting what I created at Emma's last all-day crop, at the end of August. We had such a nice day. Some Ottawa ladies came to Cornwall to crop with us and we had a blast!  I love it when everyone shares what they've done, it gives ideas and inspiration. I love all-dayers!!

Here's what I created:

1. My love of circles (Emma teases me because I use circles on a lot of my layouts....and I mean A LOT!!)

I used all different sized circles I made from patterned paper to place in the form of a heart. I used buttons and brads randomly to add some interest. I placed my picture, title, and journalling around the heart shape and presto...one layout down.

I used different products I had in circles shapes (I should really keep track of what I use but I don't!) and placed behind my photo. I also used my new favourite product, chalkboard washi tape for my journalling. I like this page because it was super easy and things seem to flow.

2. Summer Fun

I wanted to create a page to show how my two older kids love the water and my youngest hates it. This was a challenging layout for me because I placed my pictures and background on a slight angle. I don't usually do angles...I like things straight. But I like the result and might do it more often.

3. Chevron

Created my own chevron pattern with different papers. I then added all kinds of goodies. I am a lover of arrows so I added some along with hearts, spray, paste with a mask, stars, brads, and of course journalling...can never create a layout without journalling!

Hopefully I can start something new real soon. My youngest will be attending school full time starting next week so then I'll be rolling...

Bye for now!

Triangles...

I love using different shapes on my layouts. For those who know me, you'll notice I'm a little circle obsessed...but I can play with all shapes with the best of them. Here I'm showing you what I've done with the dearly beloved three point shape:

1.  Using it in your design...

Using the triangle in your design will always, and I mean always, be pleasing to the eye. Try it...bunch everything in a triangular shape on your layouts and you'll be happy with how it all works together. When I'm stumped for a page design I almost always revert back to this design style.

2.  Creating arrows...

I'm a huge fan of arrows right now. I like to point arrows at the focal point in my layouts...arrows are just cool. I love finding different ways to use my scraps so in this layout I cut out little triangles out of my scraps and used them in a straight line pointing to that ugly face on the page. I'm directing your eye to the main focus that is telling the story.

3.  Using arrows where you think arrows exist...

I used triangles (again with scraps) as the rays of sunshine. You could also use them to create the roof of a house, a star, grass, mountains, bows, skirts, anywhere you think arrows exist.

I love creating my own embellishments with paper. It saves money on pre-made embellishments, it adds interesting elements, and you can control the size of the embellishment to work with what you have.

Stay tuned for the interesting..........square!!...lol

Oh washi tape...what can I say about you. You have filled a void in my life, you have warmed my heart with excitement, you light sunshine in me on the gloomiest days...oh how I love you my pretty, pretty washi tape.

This layout took me a whole 20mns to complete. Tore different pieces of washi tape for my border, added some flowers by my picture and added a few touches such as a word and enamel dots, then my journalling and presto, done! Easiest layout ever but beautiful thanks to my beloved washi tape...and the kids are alright looking...;0)

Thursday, August 8, 2013

So I call this layout "Use everything you can think of" layout...lol  I sprayed, I stamped, I layered, I stamped again, I gelatoed, I inked, etc...  I go a little crazy sometimes but the end result is fun. This picture doesn't really show all of the layers involved in this layout. I need to improve my layout photography skills.

I love, love, love the new chalkboard washi tape that I wrote on. First time I use it and certainly won't be the last. I'm thinking of using it in a future project of placing it all around my paper starting from the edges coming in. That will be for a layout with a lot of journalling involved but think it will look super cool...oh, I'm getting excited just thinking about the possibilities. Stay tuned for that one! Or I could create a bunch of journalling "boxes" by cutting even strips and making squares with it.  Or I could create a border with it around my photos and journal about the picture. Or ...ok, I'll stop now.

I'd like to point out my newest addiction...adding pattern paper corners to my pages. Such a nice touch. Good way to tie in colors, in my case I'm usually always trying to tie in some black...love black.

Well, gotta go. Season finale of the Bachelorette is playing tonight and I'm anxious to see if she dumps both guys because she had her heart broken from contestand #3!!!  Love reality tv...like that's really reality that you would have 25 gorgeous guys to choose from and of course they all fall in love with you...barf, barf.

Catch ya next time.

Monday, August 5, 2013

Hey!!!  So excited to be submitting to this blog! I went in to Auntie Em's on Saturday and this "blogging" thing came about.  I've never blogged before and, I'll be honest,  am a little intimidated.  Please be patient since I'm sure you'll see half a post then the rest when I've figured out something is off...lol

I'm super pumped to be posting my work because sometimes I'll work on layouts and the only one who ever sees it is my husband. He tries to act interested but I'm sure he's VERY happy I now have all of you to share with.

Speaking of layouts, last night I decided to work with soft colors...all different whites. I actually bought all of this paper on Saturday at Emma's for 40% off. All of her Christmas goodies were on sale and I saw this paper and loved it. Sometimes, I try to think outside the box and use "seasonal" lines for different "non seasonal" layouts. I love the effect this paper has with the soft colours of Oskar, my Dad's beloved dog.

Notice how I wrote "My brotha". I'm not trying to be hip...I just ran out of the letter "r" and had to improvise...lol  Now I look cool and was able to use the letter stickers I wanted.

So, there we are, my first post is done...pheww! Be back soon...

Happy News

Who doesn't like happy news??  I'm happy to introduce Michelle Pilon to Auntie Em's design team. I'll let Michelle tell you all about herself, but I must say I'm sure she will inspire you. Please help me in welcoming her to the team and I look forward to her upcoming posts!! Watch for her here and of course on Auntie Em's Scrapbooking facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/auntieemsscrapbookingbeading

Introducing Michelle, (in her words!)

I caught the scrapbooking bug when I attended my first Creative Memories party in 2002. I soon became addicted to all the pretty papers, tools, embellishments, etc., etc.,. I left this wonderful hobby for about four years after the birth of my second child. My third child turned three and that is when the craziness started. I knew I needed to get back into scrapbooking to keep my sanity.
I am a mother of three gorgeous boys who continue to give me daily inspiration. I try to not only scrapbook special occasions but daily life within our family. I believe that the little things that make me laugh and happy will be the memories I truly want to cherish.
I'm a lover of all things creative. I love photography, fashion, art, music, jewelry, literature.  I've never been a great oral communicator but give me a pen and paper and I am open about my feelings. Scrapbooking has helped me express myself and has become my therapy.
I’m not sure what my style is. I like to try new techniques and products. I know what I’m not, I don’t do vintage and I’m not huge on flowers…probably because I have three boys. I’m definitely a paper crafter. I like to embellish using papers, all different kinds of papers. I usually throw a bunch of different things together and it’s a surprise to me how it will turn out in the end.
I’m super excited to be on Emma’s design team. I will keep challenging myself to bring new ideas to this blog. It is a huge compliment to think that Emma believes I can contribute to all of you talented scrappers.

and look at this pretty face (my words!)

NOW - no pressure Michelle - but show us your stuff!! lol

Thanks for stopping by! And this is my promise to you all I am hoping to make this blog more active - so feel free to remind ever once and a while!!

ttfn Emma :)

Nat Noted -- July 8/13

Hello everyone!

It feels like ages since I've posted the last Nat Noted because, well, it's been ages. I've noticed that other bloggers have had the same problem I do: lots of time gobbled up by life.

But I'm back now just in time for CHA Summer 2013 (which has been renamed Create-N-Connect). I found some new releases that are must-haves, a few cool techniques, a few tips and one amazing layout. I hope you enjoy these finds!

1. Anna Dabrowska aka Finnabair is behind 7 Dots Studio which has released three new collections for CHA Summer 2013. My favourite is 9th Wave.
2. Anna Dabrowska is also a designer for Prima. Her newest collection is called Vintage Vanity. This preview has me very excited!
3. A few years ago, my scraproom was filled mostly with Bo Bunny products. Then, something happened and I moved to Basic Grey, My Mind's Eye and Little Yellow Bicycle. Then, Bo Bunny released some amazing collections at CHA Winter 2013. Now, the company has four new collections for this summer and I have to say they're really good. Love the Silver & Gold collection the most.

4. Stencils and masks are now a big part of my scrapbooking. I must have been living under a rock because I completely missed the release of Heidi Swapp's stencils. I have to have this 6x6 confetti stencil.

5. Over at Pink Paislee, Danielle Flanders used Gelatos on the Artisan paper and embellishments collection. That's a match made in heaven! If you were ever curious about gelatos, this post is a nice introduction and will make you want to buy the whole set.

6. I have to be honest, I don't have time to watch video tutorials. But I couldn't help but have a peek at Dyan Reavely's video. She showed a resist technique using a glue stick. Very cool!

7. Noell Hyman from Paperclipping has a wonderful post on Tim Holtz Distress Paints. She added Tim's video on how to use the Distress Paints on a tag, but she wanted to show us how to use this product on scrapbooking layouts. I have been asking this question all year. Thank you Noell!!

8. This is a stunning layout by Stacey Young. She created the apple (a genius idea for a school layout btw) with Shimmerz and Dazzlerz. Now I want to try these products. <sigh>

I hope you get some time this week to sneak in some scrapbooking, cardmaking, art journalling or other paper crafting.

Take care!
